If you’re a gamer, content creator, remote worker or part of a household with multiple heavy internet users, 5 Gig gives you the freedom to do everything at once—without slowdowns. It’s built for large file uploads, ultra-low latency and streaming across many devices, all at once. Even if you don’t need the full speed today, 5 Gig future-proofs your home for what’s coming next. ## What kind of equipment do I need for 5 Gig internet? To take full advantage of 5 Gig speeds, you’ll need a multi-gig capable router and devices with 10 Gig or 5 Gig Ethernet ports. Ziply Fiber provides a [compatible router](/content/services/whole-home-wifi/wifi-7/index.html) when you sign up, so you’re set up for success from day one. ## Will all my devices automatically get 5 Gbps speeds? Not exactly. Most smartphones, tablets and laptops aren’t built to reach 5 Gbps on their own. But with 5 Gig service, your whole network benefits—more devices can connect at once with faster speeds, less lag and no bottlenecks. ## Is 5 Gig internet more reliable or just faster? Both. It’s ultra-fast and built on our 100% fiber network for rock-solid reliability. That means consistent performance, even during peak hours, with symmetrical upload and download speeds that support everything from video calls to cloud backups. ## How is 5 Gig different from Gig or 2 Gig plans? Speed and capacity. While Gig and 2 Gig are great for most households, 5 Gig is designed for those who want the best of the best—more speed, more power and more capability for everything the future brings. ## Read more on our blog ###### Next-gen WiFi: What WiFi 7 brings WiFi 7 is the next big step in home connectivity. It cuts through congestion, boosts bandwidth and helps dozens of devices stay fast and responsive at the same time. With wider channels, multiple frequency bands and backward compatibility, it turns your router from a bottleneck into an advantage. All speed tiers are symmetrical, and many homes can jump to 2 or 5 Gig without changing equipment. If you stream, game, create or work online, upgrading unlocks smoother uploads and a connection that feels instantly faster. [HOW TO UPGRADE](/content/blogs/article/upgrading-is-easy/index.html) ###### Why real fiber to the home matters Not all “fiber” connections are the same. Some providers still switch to old cable lines for the last mile, which can slow speeds and add congestion. True fiber to the home gives you a dedicated connection, fast symmetrical speeds, low latency and the full benefits of an end-to-end fiber network.
